Mesothelioma Medical Terms List

asbestos- A man-made widely produced group of silicate fibers that have a length to with ratio greater than 3.

benign mesothelioma (BM)

clubbing- An enlargement on the ends of the fingers and toes.

dyspnea- A labored breathing pattern.

hypoglycemia- Low level of glucose in the blood.

malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM)

mesothelioma- A malignant tumor covering the lining of the lung and often associated with asbestos exposure.

pericardium- A double layered serosa enclosing the heart and forming its superficial layer.

peritoneum- The serous membrane lining the interior of the abdominal cavity and covering the surfaces of abdominal organs.

peritoneal mesothelioma (PM)

pleura- The two layered serous membrane that lines the chest cavity and covers the external surface of the lung.

pleurectomy- Removal of the pleura.

radiation therapy- the treatment of cancer by exposure to radiation from a radioactive source.
